Wish Designs’ rugs can be found in residences and hospitality accommodations across the country, but today we’re focusing on rug review from an everyday home that put one of our rugs to the test.
Our artisan rugs are created using ultra-suede and leather cuttings in various lengths and widths. This style of rug was spawned from the old Americana “dust-catcher” rugs prominent in Amish communities (read more here). These up-cycled rugs were very durable and easy to clean, and our modern take – using elegant colors and fabrics – not only enhance the beauty of any kind of room or design style, but are easy to clean as well. A hallmark of these rugs is their ability to hide dirt an debris while being machine washable and vacuumable (in addition to the good old “shake it out” method). But don’t take our word for it! Here is a real-life rug review from a customer with a home that would challenge any rugs’ durability and cleanability.
What made you take the plunge and try out a Wish Designs rug in your home?
I have long admired these beautiful rugs, but I’ll be honest, I was skeptical. My home has 2 adults, 2 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats…and only 1 rug. There’s a reason for that. Between animal accidents, kid accidents, shedding, muddy feet and muddy paws, dust, slobber, spilled food and drinks, kids and pets getting sick, messy arts and crafts…it’s nearly a full time job just to keep the floors clean in our home! So the thought of an extremely textured and high-pile carpet seemed daunting, if not impossible, to keep clean. But getting one of these rugs was a risk I had to take.
What type of rug did you choose, and where did you place it?
I chose a Whisper Cut rug in greys and blacks to match our home. I wanted it to be a focal point that enhanced our home without being too loud or distracting. The fine, thin strips, fringy strips have a two inch nap and provide a delicate and soft feel. I decided to go with a small rug at first, to see how it would fare in my home, and placed it in front of the doors to our back yard and patio. This is easily the dirtiest and most high-traffic part of my home. We live in Arizona, which means that the beautiful weather entices humans and animals alike to go in and out of the doors all day, and it means our yard has rock instead of grass, and they lay on dry sandy dirt, which is constantly kicked up and tracked into the house. This made it the perfect location to see if a rug like this could not only look great, but hold up day in and day out.
How easy has it actually been to keep the rug clean? Does it look dirty all the time?
Very easy, and it always looks great! But don’t let that fool you, when I vacuum or shake it out PLENTY of dirt and hair comes out, it’s surprising. Wish Designs had advised that a vacuum with the ability to be lowered and raised to accommodate varying rug pile heights would be ideal for these rugs. Well, I don’t have that kind of vacuum, I have the Dyson V8 Animal, which has a very powerful suction and auto shuts off easily when vacuuming thick or lose surfaces like the couch or a shag carpet. But wouldn’t you know, as long as I put some weight on one side of the rug while I push the vacuum away from me (do this in both directions), it had zero issues vacuuming up all the direct and hair off the rug.
The good old “shake it out” method is perfect for this rug too! If it starts looking a little too hairy (which is hard to tell since it camouflages animal hair so well), you just take it out back, give it a few shakes, and it looks clean and fluffed like new.
It’s machine washable too! A couple weeks in, someone had an accident on it. Rather than go through a whole roll of paper towels scrubbing and drying and scrubbing and drying the wet spot like I would have to do with a traditional rug, I just tossed it in the washer. It washed up beautifully and dried looking good as new (rug review pro tip: vacuum or shake it out first).
How does everyone like it?
The rug looks beautiful in our home. We have lots of grey and white in our house and Wish Designs crafted the perfect rug to match our décor. It complements our aesthetic while also adding a unique and fun focal point. We’ve had lots of compliments from visitors. When the rug arrived, my toddler and 5 animals were beyond excited. “A new plushy surface to lay on? Yes!” was what they were all thinking. It is indeed very soft and cushy. I find excuses to walk on it!
